Haven't gone through all of this stuff, but I just wanted to chime in with my two cents here real quick. I've skimmed through and I think I've gotten the broad strokes. My apologies if some of this is redundant or if I missed something. Being farm eligible and being being Waiver Draft eligible are not (and in my opinion should not be) mutually exclusive concepts. The distinction is, to me, that the Entry Draft is for bolstering your farm, while the Waiver Draft should be where you fill out your active roster. To say that any player that falls under the "prospect" umbrella should be excluded from the Waiver Draft is to say that any player that doesn't have at least 130AB or 55IP in their career can't add value to somebody's active roster. I think that Yu Darvish would disagree. Speaking of Darvish, I'm pretty sure he wasn't prospect eligible at the time of our 2012 Entry Draft, since he hadn't yet signed with the Rangers and we had decided that we didn't want foreign players to be draft eligible. If we draw a line in the sand at 55IP he would have ended up being ineligible for both drafts, which seems pretty silly to me, since he obviously fit the "adds value to your active roster" bill. As far as I can tell, the only reason this is really an issue is because of how late we're having our Entry Draft this year due to a lack of owners. If we had our Entry Draft in December/early January, obviously any highly touted player that was prospect eligible would have been taken by now. What would be left for the Waiver Draft would be guys who are expected to make their respective MLB roster, while at the same time weren't sexy enough prospects to be perceived by the league as one of the top 48 available farm eligible players. As far as I'm concerned, if owners want to draft a fourth round prospect to their active roster that's their business, provided they make an MLB team. There are only two scenarios where this doesn't really work itself out to my satisfaction. First is when there is some foreign import that isn't signed to an MLB contract when our Entry Draft starts. Since their not MLB property they aren't FPBL eligible, meaning they can't be taken in the Entry Draft(if only somebody could have foreseen this issue before now ). So if they can't be drafted until the Waiver Draft, the top farm eligible player taken in the Waiver Draft isn't the 49th best available prospect of the offseason. Since a guy like Darvish is probably going to be the most impactful waiver pickup of the offseason as well as the best prospect though, it doesn't bother me that much. The second instance where we run into this problem is when we start the Entry Draft super late, and there may be some draft overlap. If the first waiver pick ends up being at the same time as the 23rd Entry pick, an owner could conceivably pick the 24th best available prospect, thus throwing a monkey wrench into everything. Since I don't expect to have to replace three owners in future offseasons, I think altering the rules to accommodate this freakish circumstance is unnecessary. Sorry if I went off on a ramble there. I hope that clarifies my feelings on the matter. If not, I'm all ears - fire away.

It always amazes me how the rules get interpreted and dissected around here. It can go deep. The minutia of it all.
Not to be a wang, but the draft does not take four weeks. I would love to propose a trade offer to double day. I swear I dont even remember who is on my team, let alone who is one his team. I might even offer him my first round pick. BUT i cant. because :
1. its january 2. espn sucks 3. the league chief is in a hurry to do the draft, even though its january. 4. i cant see me team, or double days.
lets all take a breathe and do this in a reasonable manner?

The rule "discussions" are probably my fault. They all make perfect sense to me for the most part, but between my brain and the keyboard something gets lost in translation. If the rest of you could just learn to speak rambling gibberish we would all be fine, lol. We are in a hurry because we also have the Waiver Draft to think of. Even though the Entry Draft is usually pretty quick (under 10 days two of the last three years), the Waiver Draft, by it's very nature, can sprawl on a bit. I'd rather not run them both concurrently, for reasons that can be mined from my above post if you can cut through my aforementioned rambling gibberish, lol. It stands to reason that, if we don't want to run both drafts simultaneously, and we need to give plenty of time for the Waiver Draft, the sooner we get the Entry Draft off the ground the better off we will be. Don't feel too bad, I don't know everybody that's on my roster either (I'll be perfectly honest, I know I have Miggy, and after that who cares? Miggy = WIN, lol). This is a real problem, and I'm hoping ESPN gets things taken care of so we don't get into a situation where we're drafting blindly. I know their football maintenance time is next to nothing (usually 48 hours or so), but their hockey leagues can be down for what seems like months (ESPN hates hockey, lol). I usually plan on a week down time, so we'll see. I'd still like to start the draft this weekend, but it's not set in stone just yet and Ed and I will come to a decision about what to do if ESPN is still down if it comes to that. And yes,

Just to be clear, the draft is NOT set to start THIS weekend (2/1) but rather NEXT weekend (2/7) which gives ESPN a whole 8 more days to be sorted out still

Like in Hockey you can draft someone who is under the cutoffs in the waiver draft but if they dont make the opening day roster they have to be cut. Thats how i read it. But having both drafts at the same time you can choose a prospect in waivers which would handicap the entry draft. You could actually sabotage the entry draft if done correctly. Just sayin'...
I am drafting Tanaka 1st in the entry draft. He is property of the NYY and under the inn cut offs(obviously) that make him farm eligible. Same thing happened when I drafted Darvish.
